The Hardware
A standalone hardware module is currently being developed at NYU University in the Interactive Telecommunications Program. If you are interested in taking part of this development, please contact us. For the time being, you can easily piece together existing components for your devices. Below is a list of what you need.
- Android device - any will do, but to transmit real time data you will need an Internet connection. It has been tested on OS 1.6, so is most likely compatible with all versions of the OS.
- Arduino - we recommend the Arduino Fio due to its compactness and easy integration with Bluetooth and lithium polymer batteries (only compatible with 3.3v sensors).
- Bluetooth - the Bluetooth Bee easily integrates with the Arudino Fio, is fairly simple to setup, and is low cost.
- Lithium polymer battery - to power the unit. At least 1000mA cell is recommended.
Software
We will be releasing an alpha build in the Android Market soon, but if you'd like to see what we have now you can check it out at GitHub.
Database
Pachube is currently being used as the data repository, but soon you will be able link to other web databases such as Google Fusion or even your own web server. A basic Pachube account is free.
